new mud hut company website
our new website's onlinewww.mudhutcompany.com, so please take a look. Only a small selection of our handmade tiles are currently up, and there are some glitches to take care of, but we're there!
Our thanks to Darryl for all his hard work, and for Capricorn Cheese for their patience whilst we link up to their gorgeous website.
Good things come to she who waits :)

whoops
apologies if you're trying to access the mud hut company website. We've hit a temporary glitch, and as it's the bank holiday it'll take a couple of days to sort out. Meanwhile if you need to contact us you can email janesdesigns@yahoo.co.uk. Have a good weekend!

new website coming
mud hut company's moving forward. Next week our lovely new website should be up and running, with a review of our products. We're busy still working on a large order for antimacassar tiles, and in September the new 'Bubble' tiles will be featured in House and Garden. Good days :)

the elves are busy
Busy week. Bought new slab roller, received a tonne of clay and began production on over 700 Antimacassar 20cm tiles for a restaurant in Zurich. Love the slab roller. So quiet in the workshop without the constant banging of rolling pins - I never realised!!

Teaching at Weston All Saints Primary School today, with children making items for a fantasy garden. Thanks everyone for a lovely day.

loads of stuff happening...
Looking forward to a gathering of boys making clay easter eggs in the workshop tomorrow. Meanwhile, mud hut company's gone for a rather beautiful take on the industrial interiors look with our Bubble tiles. Here's how they look en masse. I want a whole wall done in them!!!
And another version of the same tiles, softened with a new border version of Antimacassar which is REALLY lovely. All in all, a good day's work.
Oh, and just sending off some Bath tiles to Grasse on Pulteney Bridge, which is a really gorgeous - and independent - lifestyle shop run by the lovely Jo. Busy busy busy. :)

summer's coming.
Reading the May edition of Living etc. All that blue and white to uplift the spirits. Been sitting in the conservatory, and tackling the garden today. The fig's gone crazy, the bougainvillea coming to life, olive tree sprouting new branches, geraniums out. Love it.

a little quote from the Songlines....
Reading Bruce Chatwin's 'The Songlines' again 20 years on... beautiful. I love this ....
from Exodus 20:25...
'And if thou wilt make me an alter of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.'
Honour what we have,as it is :)

spring country living fair Islington
What did you think of the Country Living Fair? I went yesterday as I'm considering a stand there for next year. Met some nice women - Nila Rubia, who designs lovely clothes using Indian prints, and Welbeck tiles. Retail's definitely hit hard - plenty of shoppers but not so much shopping! A lovely sunny day nonetheless and very relaxing - followed my retailing sojourn with an extended lounge at Little Venice with sandwiches and smoothie!
So, trade fair or no trade fair? Know any good ones, perhaps a bit more cutting edge than Country Living?

stop press! mud hut company teaching teachers...
it's been too long coming, but with so much teaching and ceramics experience, and so little teaching of ceramics in schools, it's time for me to properly share my expertise. Mud Hut Company now offers workshops to schools to enable teachers to deliver clay sessions properly, and give children tangible 3D experience. Email me for more info on one day basic workshops in handbuilding techniques, as well as follow-up 3 hour sessions in decoration techniques, smokefiring and advanced coiling. If you're not a teacher that's fine too!
